The new Nautilus 5990/1A-011
The chronograph first appeared in the Nautilus in 2006, the year of the collection’s 30th anniversary. In 2014 with the reference 5990/1A-001 the Travel Time function was added to the complication that measures short times, initially proposed in steel, and in 2021 in a rose gold version ref. 5990/1R-001.
In 2024 Patek Philippe revisits the 5990/1A in steel offering a new blue dial (previously it was black) with a sunburst sunburst motif that fades towards black in the peripheral part. In practice it is very similar to the one fitted to the Nautilus 5811.
Still regarding the dial, the inevitable engraved horizontal relief typical of the Nautilus collection with applied indexes and rounded baton hands all in white gold with luminescent coating.
The case with octagonal bezel is, as always, waterproof to 120m. The chronograph buttons are at 2 and 4 o’clock, the local time correction buttons at 9 o’clock. It measures 40.5 mm and has a satin finish while the steel bracelet is characterized by an alternation of polished and satin.
The steel bracelet with patented Patek Philippe folding clasp, made secure by four independent attachment points, is equipped with a new lockable adjustment system, already seen in the 5811, which allows you to recover 2 or 4 mm of length as needed for greater comfort.
The Patek Philippe caliber
The self-winding CH 28-520 C FUS caliber combines three complications: the flyback chronograph, the Travel Time function (dual time zone with two central hour hands, one of which is perforated for home time) and the indication of the date hand (at 12 o’clock) associated with local time.
Its architecture provides for the shunting of chronograph functions via the traditional column wheel with the advanced vertical disc clutch. As is known, the flyback function allows you to instantly start a new timing without first having to stop the hands.
Price and Opinions
The Patek Philippe Nautilus 5990/1A costs €69,160. If we exclude the 5712 and 5726, which are not chronographs but still have complications on board, it is one of the few remaining Nautilus with a steel case.
